Elsie

a Bobcat

About the year 2000, a man living outside Sacramento, California found three little bobcat cubs on his property.  They had been abandoned when their mother was shot.  The helpless little cubs were bottle-fed, nurtured, and well cared for.  When they were strong enough, they had the freedom to roam around his property or slowly venture farther into the natural world.  Eventually two of them followed their natural instincts and answered the call of the wild.

The little one, Elsie, stayed behind.  Although she mostly lived free outside, she was very friendly with the man and would even climb down the chimney to get inside his house when he wasn't home.

Then he found out that he had to move and there was no place for Elsie to go.  Afraid that the new homeowners might not accept the little bobcat, or worse, destroy her, he put in a call to Shambala.  On November 18, 2003, Elsie came to live at the Preserve.  She was not in good shape.  Many of her teeth had to be removed because of decay and she was not happy about living in captivity.

Elsie deserves to live free, but as she has become used to humans, she would very likely be destroyed if she once again wandered into homes or back yards.  She now lives and plays with Shambala's other rescued bobcats, Tabby, Cassie, and Jazzy.

All of us at Shambala would like to join Elsie in thanking you for your kind and generous support.
